Study Through Critical Lens: Crisis of Nationalism

At the time period of late 50s in 20th century, the colonial empire collapsed through widespread popular nationalistic movement all over the world to uphold the rights of freedom to enjoy unique power identity as a nation state.

In a sense it’s a pious wish for any community or ethnic group for raising voice in favor of own power will.

In according to Oxford dictionary marked nationalism as an extreme form of patriotism marked by a feeling of superiority over other countries.

As a result of wide spread golden rule of nationalism, newly emerged nation states are used their ideological implementation very narrowly. In the context of real world nationalistic approach upholds popular narrative in the positivist way. It doesn’t consider plural opinion. In the context of any sorts of achievement, it has advocacy role in favor of dominant discourse. It nullifies the contribution of others for the sake of own supreme mentality. It marginalized and persecuted less privileged people from the power framework. Too some extend fundamental nationalism promotes fascism for its character. It creates rival and spread war propaganda between different state authorities to establish heroic reality. But it doesn’t bother about reactionary mentality that demolish a peaceful brotherhood by selling hatred through ‘patriotism’. As a result we experienced two world war and bloody communal riots at the time of  the  Great India partition.

British novelist George Orwell noted that “The nationalist not only does not disapprove of atrocities committed by his own side, but he has a remarkable capacity for not even hearing about them.”

It enforces linear identity and a big opposition of multiculturalism. Its partially a monster because it provokes minority voice to assimilate with dominant establishment.

George Orwell quoted “Nationalism is power hunger tempered by self deception.” Because he also quoted a significant speech- “All animals are equal, but some animals are more equal than others.”

People of the real world has thirst for freedom and justice but nationalism  is not an proper ideology to justify the world as a  space of rationality.
